OPENING THE ARK
OF THE COVENANT
The Secret Power of
the Ancients, the Knights Templar Connection and the Search for the Holy Grail

By Frank Joseph & Laura Beaudoin
Published by New Page Books
287 pages, paperback

There is a tale about the electrical genius Tesla that may have some bearing on the subject of this book.

In the late 1890’s, Tesla was supposedly experimenting with electrical apparatus, when he set off a series of harmonic vibrations that threatened to destroy the building. To stop it, he had to take out a component and pound it to pieces with a hammer on the pavement.

Something similar may have occurred in past ages with both the Ark of the Covenant and the Great Pyramid. The authors’ explore the possibility that there was a form of power with both, that could be used for the improvement of human consciousness, or as the first weapon of mass destruction. It has long been speculated that the purpose of the Great Pyramid was not for a giant tomb, but for something else far more dramatic.

There are legends that the Atlanteans, and before them the Lemurians, had power crystals capable of transducing a great deal of energy. Refugees from the sinking of Atlantis may have carried such a stone or crystals into Egypt.

This stone, known as the Ben-Ben, was the most sacred object in this ancient land and was installed in the King’s Chamber to complete the Great Pyramid’s function as a geo-transducer. A blue light forming a ball has been seen at the top of the Pyramid as recently as 1994, although of course the Ben-Ben stone is long gone. The blue light may be caused by tectonic stress building up beneath the structure.

Interestingly, each new pharaoh was required to enter the King’s Chamber for an initiation ceremony that transformed him into a living god. This would have been done through the high priests chanting or by some means generating a resonance with the Ben-Ben stone.

However, something may have gone horribly wrong with Egypt’s rebel pharaoh Akhenaton, producing physical deformities, as well as launching him on a single minded quest to supplant the traditional religion of Egypt with a new monotheistic creed.

It didn’t last however, as Akhenaton made too many enemies in his bid to upset the existing order. Once the crystal was removed, the Great Pyramid was subjected to an electrical overload causing scorch marks still visible today.

What could contain an artifact of such overwhelming power? Why, the Ark of the Covenant of course.

Traditionally, the Ark was used to store the stone tablets left by Moses, however the evidence indicates it may have been built to contain a force that was extremely dangerous.

The trumpets Joshua ordered to be blown triggered a response that knocked down the walls of Jericho. Because the stone inside the Ark was tied to earth energies, sometimes it would work and at other times be totally inert. As its behaviour was so capricious, it was only used as a last ditch effort. It also had a bad habit of injuring or killing its handlers.

Although it is assumed to have come to rest in Ethiopia, the supposed Ark there may be only one of a number of replicas designed to throw any hunting groups off the trail. Other possible locations are: Mount Moriah in Israel, Rome, Edinburgh, Glastonbury in England, and even Japan. The authors have traced a probable path that is more fantastic than all of these.

In 1127, the Knights Templar dug up the Ark under the Temple Mount, and took it by ship to Italy. The following year, it was transported to a monastery in France, while its permanent home Chartres Cathedral was being prepared. It next passed into the hands of the Cathars, due to a security risk, and they took it to a remote fortress in the Pyrenees Mountains. After escaping a nine month siege, it was then transported to Spain.

The Old World with its wars was deemed too unsafe, and it was determined the Ark should be hidden in America. At this point, a Canadian connection comes in. It has long been rumoured that Oak Island in Nova Scotia might be the hiding place for the treasure of the Knights Templar, but if anything connected with the Ark is really there, it's more likely documents alluding to the real sanctuary.

According to the chronology, in 1667 a Jesuit Priest, Jean Baudoin, transported the Ark to Montreal, where threats once more caused it to be moved by the great French explorer La Salle. This is how the Ark ended up near Peoria in present day Illinois!

The great New Madrid earthquake of 1811 collapsed the entrance to the cave in which it was stored. The cave was rediscovered in 1982 and again in 1999, and today, in 2007, it only awaits excavation efforts to see what is there.

An engraved stone from the cave depicts something that certainly resembles the Ark, and radar images retrieved in 2004, show a rectangular box with two staves running along its length.

Along the way, there are fascinating links to Lourdes, the Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull, Nazi Germany and the legend of the Holy Grail.

The book is very erudite and highly convincing, and it does not drown the reader with names and places that are difficult to understand. It makes The Da Vinci Code look like a kindergarten tale in comparison.

A tour de force by the authors, this book needs to be read by anyone who wants to know more about biblical historical mysteries.
